Chemung County Habitat for Humanity Women Build 2018
What is Women Build?
As part of Habitat for Humanity’s National Women Build Week, sponsored by Lowe’s, women from all walks of life participate in Women Build events across the country to address housing issues and engage women in construction. Women Build is part-fundraiser/ part-build where volunteer teams set out to raise funds while assisting with build projects. Women Build brings together businesses, community leaders, and volunteers to celebrate the empowerment of women, while building affordable housing for low-income families in Chemung County.
When and where is Women Build 2018 taking place?
Women Build 2018 will take place on Saturday May 5, 2018 from 9am to 2pm at one of our active worksites in Chemung County, which will be announced as the event approaches. Sign-in will take place at 8:30am, a Lowes clinic on “how to paint” will start at 8:45am, and building will commence at 9:00am.
What will happen at Women Build 2018?
Volunteer teams will work together to fund and build a Habitat home. Although teams are recommended, individuals may come on their own. Projects may include construction such as painting, outside repairs, installation of windows, and trim work. Lunch will be provided, as well as T-shirts (top priority given in order registrations are received).
How can I participate?
Be a Team Captain, be a Team member, or volunteer individually without a team. Women Build Team Captains are leaders of a team of women (or men) that together raise a suggested amount of $500 and participate in our home-building event. While we encourage teams to consist of at least 5 members, we will accept teams of any size. Individuals are welcome to fundraise and participate on their own as well. As a Women Build Team Captain, your impact is more extensive than just building a home. You will play a crucial role by managing your team’s fundraising efforts and serving as a point of communication between Chemung County Habitat and your team.
