Our Vision
A world where everyone has a decent place to live
Our Mission
Seeking to put God’s love into action, Chemung County Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope
Our History:
Building Homes. Strengthening Communities. Changing Lives.
Chemung County Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1989 by a group of local citizens who believed everyone deserves a decent place to live. They came together in response to two growing concerns: the rising number of hardworking families struggling to afford safe housing, and the high percentage of rental properties in Elmira that lacked long-term investment from owners.
Since then, we've partnered with more than 40 families to help them achieve the dream of homeownership—providing strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter. But the need hasn’t gone away—and neither have we.
Today, Chemung County Habitat is more than a homebuilder. We're a community partner dedicated to revitalizing neighborhoods, repairing and preserving homes, and expanding access to resources that help families thrive. We bring people together—volunteers, donors, local organizations, and families—to build a stronger, more vibrant Chemung County.
We believe that housing is a foundation for life—and together, we’re building a future where everyone has a safe, affordable place to call home.
